Arquitectura tradicional

Traditional architecture The traditional architecture of the area stands out for being historically based on scattered settlements, so there are ruins that prove it since the Muslim era. The basic system of construction uses load-bearing walls, or main walls. They are called main walls because they support the weights of the slabs and roofs directly on top of them.
They are mainly built with stones picked up from lime mortar and, in other cases, with plaster mortar. Cornerstones, or sometimes rough tiles, or ashlars, are placed in the corners and lintels of the doors and the windows. Bigger stones were placed where a breakage could happen.
The width of the main walls varied between 35 and 55 cm, depending on the load they had to bear. By this way, the holes in the main walls were designed to provide light, ventilation, and to allow supervision.
The documents registered since 18th century mention several buildings around el Poble Nou de Benitatxell, such as Caste Teuca, the Corralet del Baile Malonda, the Molinet de Castelló, the Corral del Morelló, the Alquería de Andrés Bolufer, the Corral de Jecintal Llovell, the Casa de Cervera, or the Caseta de Marqués, place where we are now and which we have written evidence from the middle of 18th century. From the Caseta de Marqués, the door and a part of a facade with a small window are preserved. There is a water tank in front of the house, and a parapet formed by two pieces made of stone are still preserved too.
