Mitjafava Festival

Start date: 2017-04-01
End date: 2017-04-30

Description

Wine and beans are two of the most typical products of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. This festival is celebrated in the month of April, with the arrival of the harvest of this legume plant. The conferences present this traditional crop and also the products linked to the grape, to highlight them and deepen the knowledge of its cultivation and its properties. Restaurateurs, associations and residents of the municipality are involved in this festival through exhibitions, samples, tapas fair, conferences, etc. The festival serves as a reference to learn about the traditional products of the municipality, which are still grown and made today.

The Associació de Veïns del Poble Nou de Benitatxell actively participates in the Festival with the competition of traditional wines, made by local farmers and enthusiasts. Red and white wines participate in the contest, based on native varieties such as Muscat and Giro.

Curiosity: broad beans have a very close relationship with the residents of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, known in the area as “mitja fava” (“half bean”). This is because in the past local farmers split these legumes, planted the part that had the stem and used the other half that did not affect the growth of the new plant for consumption.

This festival is celebrated in April. See the exact date on the annual calendar. The footpath leads to a viewpoint where is sighted, to the north, the entire beach of Moraig from a new perspective, with the Cap de la Nau in the background. We end up at an area of geological interest, the fault, the diary or in the tourist office.
