Mirador del Portalet, 03726 El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, Alicante, España

Mirador del Portalet is one of the privileged viewpoints in the historic centre of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. Located beside one of the municipality’s most traditional corners, it offers a sweeping panorama of the Marina Alta landscape, with fields, mountains and nearby towns that reveal the village’s distinctive setting.

Discover this place

The Mirador del Portalet is located in the heart of the historic centre of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, next to Plaça de l’Església. To reach it, visitors pass through El Portalet, one of the historic gateways to the original enclosure that protected the old settlement.

Within just a few steps, the landscape changes completely: leaving behind the Church of Santa María Magdalenaand the streets of the historic centre, visitors are greeted by an extensive panorama of fields, mountains and the Mediterranean.

A balcony overlooking the agricultural landscape

Below the viewpoint stretches Benitatxell’s traditional rural landscape, shaped over generations through agricultural terraces and dry-stone walls. Among its crops, Muscat grape vines are particularly significant, closely linked to the municipality’s agricultural and cultural history.

This mosaic of fields reveals the close relationship that has existed for centuries between the town and its surrounding territory. Vineyards, olive trees, almond trees and old agricultural terraces form part of a landscape that still preserves much of the identity of the Marina Alta.

From Montgó to the Bay of Xàbia

The distinctive silhouette of Montgó, one of the Marina Alta’s great landscape landmarks, dominates the horizon.

Towards the coast, the view opens over the Bay of Xàbia, framed by Cap de Sant Antoni, while Cap de la Nau can also be recognised in the distance. The combination of cultivated fields, mountains and sea creates one of the most complete panoramas visible from the town itself.

Between history and landscape

The viewpoint’s location gives the panorama an additional dimension. Immediately behind it lie El Portalet and Benitatxell’s historic centre, where the rear façades of houses, together with the church and other structures, once formed part of the system that enclosed and protected the settlement.

The viewpoint therefore stands at the meeting point of two landscapes that tell the story of Benitatxell: on one side, the historic town; on the other, the fields that sustained much of the local economy and everyday life for generations.

Today, the Mirador del Portalet also forms part of the Urban Route and the Respira project, which identifies places around the municipality that are particularly suited to stopping and enjoying the landscape at a slower pace.

The Mirador del Portalet is ultimately one of those places where Benitatxell can be understood at a glance: the town, its agricultural landscape, Montgó and the Mediterranean brought together in a single panorama.
